Differentiated GEO Strategy Matrix for Five Chinese AI Engines

QuestMobile: Doubao 382M, Qwen 167M, DeepSeek 130M MAU (Jun 2026); Yuanbao 114M. A differentiated GEO strategy matrix across five Chinese AI engines.

Publish one piece of brand content and you will get three different outcomes: Doubao cites your Douyin video, Yuanbao quotes your WeChat official account article, and Qwen picks the parameter table buried in your website.

That is not mysticism — it is the direct result of different user profiles and source structures across the five engines. QuestMobile's H1 2026 AI native app ranking (published August 2026, reported by Kuaikeji/Sina Tech) put Doubao at 382M MAU in June 2026, far ahead, with Qwen at 167M and DeepSeek at 130M as the only search-type AI app in the top three. Tencent reported Yuanbao at 114M MAU (People's Daily Online, 2026-02-18). Meanwhile, GEO entered its commercialization acceleration phase: iResearch data shows China's GEO market grew 215% year-on-year in Q2 2025, and CAICT's white paper measured a 2.8x lift in customer acquisition conversion for AI-recommended scenarios versus traditional search.

Yet CAICT's monitoring also reported that of 13,889 sampled web pages, only 1,849 were actually cited by AI — an effective citation rate of just 13.31%. Publishing is not the same as being cited. What brands need is not one more press release but a strategy matrix that allocates content assets by engine.

1. The 2026 Five-Engine Landscape: Data and Signals

Look at the landscape before building the matrix. In 2026 the five engines show sharply different growth curves and ecosystem ties:

EngineMAU (basis)Key signalGEO implication
Doubao382M (QuestMobile, Jun 2026)#1 by a wide margin, ~2.3x #2Mass-market content is the baseline
Qwen167M (QuestMobile, Jun 2026)Q1 downloads +954.3% QoQ, top of download chartGrowth window: claim the niche early
DeepSeek130M (QuestMobile, Jun 2026)Only search-type AI app in the top threeSearch-scenario content pays
Yuanbao114M (Tencent official, Feb 2026)Deep WeChat ecosystem integrationOfficial accounts are the first source
KimiTier 1 (no official figure)Kimi K3: world's largest open-source model (Jul 2026)Deep long-form and open-source content

2. The Differentiation Matrix: Five Engines × Five Dimensions

Putting profile, sources, content format and playbook into one table gives brands a distribution map for their content assets:

EngineUser profileCore sourcesContent formatsDifferentiated play
DoubaoMass-market, scenario-drivenByteDance ecosystem (near-90% Douyin citation in purchase decisions, industry observation)Plain-language Q&A, scenario guides, conclusion-firstColloquial question coverage + short-video source links
DeepSeekTechnical usersDispersed sources; pruning low-value content (industry observation)Tech docs, white papers, evidence-based argumentsRigorous argumentation + verifiable data
YuanbaoDeveloped-city skewWeChat official accounts (NewRank Zhihui, Dec 2025 observation)Official-account articles, WeChat ecosystem contentOfficial-account matrix + WeChat-wide synergy
QwenMale-skewedTechnical specs, industry dataParameter tables, comparison tests, industry reportsHard data + scenario solutions
KimiLong-context, deep researchDispersed; values completenessDeep long-form, research reports, FAQ systemsComplete structure + open-source ecosystem content

NewRank Zhihui's December 2025 observation found Doubao's citations skew toward ByteDance ecosystem content, Yuanbao visibly favors WeChat official accounts, while DeepSeek and Kimi draw from more dispersed sources. These are third-party observations, not official weights — but they support one conclusion: one-size-fits-all publishing no longer works. For deeper detail on each engine's source preferences, see our six-engine source-preference comparison.

3. Engine-by-Engine Levers

A matrix only pays off once it becomes action. Three levers per engine:

Doubao: write answers in plain language

For a mass-market base, use colloquial question titles ("How to choose X" rather than "An X selection guide"), put conclusions first with clear steps, and link Douyin-style sources — industry observation puts Doubao's Douyin citation at nearly 90% in purchase decisions (2026). For the mechanics, see our Doubao AI search mechanism guide.

DeepSeek: trade rigor for citations

DeepSeek is pruning low-value content, so tech documentation, white papers and evidence-backed arguments win. A published anonymized case (DeepGEO, 2026) shows a premium skincare brand lifting DeepSeek share of voice (SOV) by 284% and top-3 recommendation rate by 200% in a specific engagement.

Yuanbao: the official account is your homepage

Yuanbao prioritizes WeChat official account content, so the account matrix is effectively your "website" in that scenario. Rewrite each site page into an official-account version and coordinate WeChat Search and Channels for full-ecosystem coverage that multiplies the 114M MAU dividend.

Qwen: parameter tables and comparisons

Qwen's male-skewed base favors hard technical content. Build a "parameters + comparison + industry data" trio for each core product and occupy the content niche during Qwen's high-growth phase — Q1 downloads grew over ninefold quarter-on-quarter.

Kimi: depth and the open-source ecosystem

Kimi excels at long-context tasks, and its K3 (July 2026) became the world's largest open-source model. Fully structured, "readable" long-form and FAQ systems are the differentiating lever in the Kimi scenario.

What to measure

Track three metrics: brand mention rate (frequency in AI answers), total source citations (how often your content is cited) and AI-channel brand visibility (overall exposure). The GEO group standard T/CAPT 026—2026, effective August 2026, established an A/B/C/D tiered source system; third-party monitoring shows A-tier sources are cited 7.2x more than C-tier — source tiering caps how well the matrix can perform. The full methodology is in our GEO effect measurement guide.

5. FAQ

Q1: Do we need all five engines? How do we split the budget?

Do not spread evenly. Run a source audit first to see where your brand is already mentioned, then allocate per the priority matrix: structured site plus monitoring covers all engines, while content production concentrates on the top two priorities. Budget-constrained teams can start with Doubao.

Q2: Doesn't this overlap with single-engine GEO articles?

No. A single-engine article answers "how to optimize this engine"; the matrix answers "how to allocate and coordinate across five engines". The matrix is the resource-allocation layer, single-engine articles are the execution layer — they reinforce each other.

Q3: How often should the matrix be updated?

Fast. Qwen's downloads grew over ninefold in one quarter, Yuanbao fell out of QuestMobile's top three, and DeepSeek declined for several quarters in a row. Review the landscape data quarterly and revisit the priority matrix every six months.

Q4: Do Douyin and Xiaohongshu content work for Doubao?

Yes. Industry observation puts Doubao's Douyin citation at nearly 90% in purchase decisions, so ByteDance ecosystem sources carry clear weight; Xiaohongshu content is also entering AI source pools in some decision scenarios and can serve as a supplement.

Q5: How do we know the differentiated strategy is working?

Compare brand mention rate and top-3 recommendation rate per engine over time. In the skincare case, DeepSeek SOV rose 284%, showing the strategy reached that engine; if one engine stays flat, go back to the source layer and check whether the content format matches its user profile.

Q6: Do we need a dedicated team?

Not at the start. An existing content team can run the layering workflow: the same source material produces site, official-account, technical and deep long-form layers at manageable cost. For a systematic program, see our GEO optimization service or contact us.
